Sophrology at Yuri’s Village, Toronto, ON

In General on September 1, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Yuri a Naturopathic Doctor from Yuri’s Village, Toronto organised a Sophrology workshop for me in her beautiful workspace.  The setting sun, accompanied us, lighting up the sculptures and plants in the room, with a warm glow, as we all moved into the relaxed state of the Sophrology exercises.   We did two exercises, the mood lifting while concentratingon loving experiences and the 2nd system of the Dynamic Relaxation Level 1.  People were surprised at how relaxed, smiling and energised they felt at the end of the workshop and many are interested in following the up-coming online Diploma Course.  Dorna

Sophrology at the Pain Clinic in Victoria BC.  While in Victoria, in July, I gave a talk at the Regional Outpatient Pain Clinic, Royal Jubilee Hospital.  There is a group of patients who meet regularly to work with overcoming their pain. They practise mindfulness meditation and other techniques.  I was asked to give a 30 minute workshop and ended up staying for 90 mins.  The response was very positive and I stayed on to give some more exercises and explanations.

Feedback from Natalia Caycedo Conference

In General on April 18, 2011 at 2:00 pm
Some of the Sophrologists and student sophrologists from Energy Centre Sophro-Ki Sophrology School, travelled to Lausanne to listen to Natalia Caycedo’s Sophrology Presentation.  This was the first time that Natalia had given a Sophrology conference in Switzerland and it was very well attended.
Natalia, being a psychiatrist, gave us an up-to-date explanation on what happens in the brain when we do a Sophrology exercise and how Sophrology exercises work with the brain processing to  quickly produce positive results.  The 4 levels of sophrology were also outlined starting with Level 1,  the Physical body,  Level 2,  the Mind and the Senses,  Level 3,  the emotions and level 4,  ‘all is one’ and she explained the effectiveness of this process in improving reducing the high levels of stress that is generally experienced from modern living.  The areas of sophrology and relationships, sophrology and illness, and sophrology for everyday life, were all touched upon.
Once the explanations had finished, Natalia lead the audience through a simply sophrology exercise for de-stressing and feeling happy. The unanimous agreement of the  efficacy of the exercise was evident from the number of hands that were raised, when asked how many of us experienced a positive difference.
The feedback from the Energy Centre Students was very positive and Natalia was very interested in our work with Sophrology in English.

What can be treated by Sophrology?

In General on January 19, 2011 at 2:51 pm

Stress related symptoms (anxiety, insomnia, back pain…)

Identifying and eliminating tensions, developing a better awareness of the factors that create stress in you and of your reactions to them at an early stage to enable you to manage them better.

Mild depression

Regaining and reinforcing self-confidence, developing all the positive aspects of life.

Anxiety, phobia

Learning how to manage crisis, gradually control the source of fear.

Preparation for a forthcoming event

Being more aware of inner resources, strengths and personal values and learning how to develop them.

Sophro-ludic  (game Sophrology) is also effective with children: helping them to control anxiety, lack of concentration, improving confidence and motivation.

Stress Management

You will learn how to relax, to identify your tensions, release them and prevent them from coming back. By developing a better awareness of the factors that create stress for you and of your reaction to them at an early stage, you will be able to manage them better. You will not suppress stressful events but you will be able to respond to them more selectively.

A mental, physical and emotional preparation for birth.
You will learn how to relax, to become more familiar with the changes in your body, more aware of what is going on in your body and to prepare for labour and delivery. Relaxation will help you bond with your unborn baby and be in tune with him/her.

At School

Teachers and parents are often amazed at the effects of Sophrology training. Students become more confident, handle problems and difficulties more calmly, sleep better, are more successful in each area of their life and are more able to manage their life and make their own decisions.

Sophrology is used by many Olympic athletes, as well as those who practise sport for fitness and relaxation. The main aim is to become fully aware of the body – learn to manage the mental side of sport – improve concentration – stimulate motivation – and increase physical power and endurance.

In Business

The objectives of courses in Sophrology  in the business area is: stress management, managing emotions (e.g.. before public speaking), preparation for difficult situations, improving relationships and interpersonal skills, improving communication, improving health, increasing creativity, and motivation. In general, a person who is happy in themselves, confident of their own abilities, has a positive outlook on life, knows how to manage their fears, how to listen and communicate with interest, and feels at ease in the world, is going to be somebody most people want to work with. They are going to be somebody who will affect the business in a positive dynamic way.

Reduce MRI anxiety with Sophrology

In General on January 19, 2011 at 2:38 pm

Roughly five percent of the world population suffers from claustrophobia (fear of small spaces), yet it is estimated that ten percent of people who undergo a MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan displays signs of extreme anxiety. It is hardly surprising, as an MRI scan is a fairly stressful experience. Being pushed into a narrow tunnel, with an instruction to lie still, is no walk in the park. If you suffer from severe claustrophobia, it might seem like your worst nightmare becoming reality.

For a number of years now, Swiss hospitals and clinics have successfully used Sophrology to combat claustrophobia during MRI scans and prepare patients for the procedure. Using Sophrology’s relaxation method, mastering of breathing and taking stock of the body before a MRI scan, you can control your body’s response and this, in turn, reduces the stress generated by the procedure. Depending on the severity of the claustrophobia, most people require only two sessions with a Sophrologist prior to the scan. The patient is usually also provided with a CD containing the exercises to practice at home for a few days prior to the MRI.

At the request of the patient, the Sophrologist may also be allowed to accompany the patient and guide them through a sophrology exercise right before the MRI. Guided by the Sophrologist’s soothing voice, the patient is taken to a place of total relaxation and inner calmness and will be empowered to cope with the anxiety created by the fear of the enclosed space. “When I started to panic, I started doing the exercise and it calmed me down immediately. I was calm for the rest of the scan” says claustrophobic MRI patient, Diane*.

There is no longer need to fear the MRI! Now you can take on this challenge with confidence.

Living from the heart

In General on December 3, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Within the nature of the heart is our capacity to feel and this is the most important part of us.  If we are guided by these ‘heart felt’ feelings we gradually change our vibratory field and this is the key to moving away from mind control and living from the heart.

The essential feelings to pay attention to, and produce more of, are joy, love, appreciation and gratitude.  If we cultivate and move towards  the things in life; the situations, the people, the thought patterns, etc. that produce physical sensations or feelings of joy, love, appreciation and gratitude, then we are living from the heart.  By asking people to do things with us and for us that produce these feelings in our own body,   we not only reinforce our own pleasure we also give the gift of pleasure and love to the other person.  Think of family cats and dogs.  They don’t sit on your lap or rub against your legs to give you pleasure, they do it to get pleasure from you.  However, when we stroke them we find that by giving pleasure, we also receive pleasure.

If we navigate through life by listening to our mind’s, shoulds, have tos, what ifs, and what will others think, then we are not listening to the heart.

Sophrology exercises help us to strengthen, expand, reinforce and proliferate positive physical sensations and body feelings.  Sophrology is like a fertiliser for our inner garden, strengthening the beautiful plants until the weeds have no place to grow.  Sophrology helps us to become aware of which parts of our body are joyful and which parts are suffering.  We can then expand the joyful parts into the suffering parts.

When our production of joy, appreciation or gratitude reaches a certain level it is self sustaining and we become joy, love, appreciation and gratitude.  From that moment on we find that even in when life is turbulent around us, we feel no fear anxiety or worry since our inner sanctuary is stronger and more powerful than the outer world.  What actually happens is that we attract like vibrations to us, so that even in difficult times, we see and experience the moments of joy, love, appreciation and gratitude.

In fact, by regularly practising this, we become living beacons of love, joy, appreciation and gratitude and when we become full to overflowing, these feelings will squeeze out through the pores or our skin and permeate everything and everyone around us.  We can then enjoy and receive from all the joyful, happy people around us.
